Jail for a fake interpreter
Have we missed something in the last half a year or so? Were there any important announcements about this country’s new policy on double standards?
We now have hospital cleaners, ASDA check-out girls, fruit pickers without any interpreting qualifications or experience working in Tribunals, Magistrates' and Crown Courts. How could things change so dramatically since June 2011 when it was considered an OFFENCE of FRAUD to interpret in courts without a proper interpreting qualification?
On the 27th June 2011 Waltham Forest Guardian published an article about a fake interpreter who was jailed for 7 month and fined £18,824 for the offence of fraud because he wasn’t properly qualified while undertaking court interpreting assignments (he failed his DPSI exams). I quote from the article “The PC Max Conner said: "Mr Puri had prevented genuine registered interpreters doing their job. I hope this sends a strong message that we will INVESTIGATE all matters of FORGERY and any profit made will be recovered”.
So clearly, taking into account that this kind of forgery takes place daily since ALS was awarded the contract, we live in a different country now with the current Minister of Justice ENCOURAGING the very thing for which the judge was giving a punishment less than a year ago! Is this real?
