Vietnamese suspect remanded after no ALS interpreter shows up
On the 16th March in Bournemouth Magistrates' a Vietnamese male had a remand hearing. He spoke no English whatsoever. The hearing went ahead with no interpreter, because the court could not get any. Instead of asking this guy for his date of birth and full name (and all the usual routine questions) he was asked "Is your name...? - he replied "OK", "Is your date of birth...?" - he replied "OK" – they said they would keep him on remand... He replied "OK" and so on.
To the credible witness to this who told me about it, it was absolutely obvious that this guy had absolutely no clue what he was being asked. His case has been adjourned until the end of March and I intend to go and witness this.
