What charge did you plead guilty to??
I was asked by an insurance company to attend a client’s address in Northampton. During the interview the assessor asked a question:” You had a court hearing a month ago. Did you plead guilty?” to which the client replied that the court hearing took place only on the previous day, as his case kept being adjourned for several weeks in a row as there was no Latvian interpreter available. However, an ALS interpreter attended the previous day (at 13.00, and not at 09.30 as booked, but never mind, as the best is to follow yet).
The gentleman was charged with three offences. However, two of them were dropped. When the client was asked by the assessor which two charges were dropped and to which one he had pleaded guilty, he started to scratch his head as he was completely perplexed, unaware, oblivious etc. to what charge he had pleaded guilty.
After the initial dismay the flabbergasted assessor put in a report something along the lines of:” I pleaded guilty, but I do not know to what, as the interpreter could not explain, but she definitely understood that two charges were dropped ”. The client was happy that the case was finally over and he did not have to take the time off work anymore. Another happy end and lots (???) of savings!
