Who will know if there is an issue with interpreting quality?
I met a 20 year old student working for Cleveland Police through ITL agency. She held no qualifications and in her words 'my brother is now a police interpreter and he put my name forward'.
Cleveland Police are adamant only interpreters with a DPSI/ and or MA in Interpreting and Translation or have sat and passed the Metropolitan Police Test shall be used on their contract with ITL (LMAO).
They would only 'scrutinise' qualifications if an issue was raised or an individual's qualifications were questioned.
So who will know if there is an issue? An English speaking officer or a non-English speaking suspect or a witness?
