ALS started attracting interpreters by occasional pay increases
I have received a call from ALS today despite the fact that they know I don't work for them and I asked them to remove my details from their system on many occasions. The guy with an Indian accent asked me to go to Newcastle Magistrates' Court from Manchester for today, 29th February, in the afternoon. My reply to him was hesitant, I was curious about their position and points of weakness. I told him "I am not available and I am not working for ALS". He said “If it’s about the rate, I will authorise payment of travel time in full plus full mileage. I then asked him: "Anything else?" He replied: "2 hours minimum for work". I asked him a question: “Do you know nobody is happy with ALS, with all my respect to you as their member of staff who are powerless, please tell your manager to stop trying it on with NR Interpreters."
I explained to him that we were not that stupid to be bullied by their lack of professionalism, etc. I added that they could pay fair rates whenever they were desperate and rip us off whenever they had too many unqualified cheap Interpreters lined up for work. We would rather sit at home than work for peanuts for ALS.
