CrimeLine survey reveals extent of problem with arranging interpreters in criminal cases
CrimeLine asked its 18,000 readers to report back in relation to criminal cases involving the use of an appointed interpreter during the week 12th – 16th March 2012.
A total of 403 responses were received:
Key points:
• In more than half of all cases no interpreter showed up
• In only 26% of cases did the interpreter appear as requested
• In 18% of cases the interpreter was late for the hearing
